- Cool Krishna Music Better Than Eurovision
Krishna consciousness is not something outdated or out of place in a modern world—quite the opposite, it is the only thing that can keep up with the ever-changing material nature. Music is a good example; music must always change. The record at the top of the charts must always be kicked out and replaced by another, because the nature of material things is that they are always static and they become tiring. Spiritual life, however, is always dynamic. Krishna consciousness means using whatever we have—talents, income, intelligence, etc.—in the service of Krishna. In other words, it does not matter the time, place or circumstance, Krishna consciousness can always be present and is never hackneyed. It is the eternal consciousness of the living entity. Since service to Krishna is eternal, we can always use whatever is available in that service. Thus Krishna conscious activities are always fresh. Below is just a few of the many wonderful examples of people who used their talents for music in the service of Krishna. eurovision What Happened When We Met Boy George? - Perfection Of Gender Equality
No matter how much endeavor we make to solve it, if we overlook the primal cause of the problem we can never come to its solution. Similarly, the ideals of gender equality that are so much desired by the contemporary society cannot be reached unless we tackle the problem in our understanding of God, which is believed to be the prime source of all that is. Religion (or its absence) has always been a major factor in the development of the society's ideals both cultural and socio-political and although throughout the history there have been emergence of many religions but none of them scientifically deal with the female aspect of God. Janmady asya yatah. Everything comes from God. Therefore the feminine nature must also be in God and just as for a child's development it is highly beneficial to have a father and mother relationship which both enrich the child with specific individual qualities, it is of great importance for any religious person to know along with the father our supreme mother and the nature of their relationship. Such sublime perfection of gender equality can be found in the Divine Personalities of Radha and Krishna, or Hare Krishna. Hare stands for Radha, who is the energy of Godhead and Krishna stands for the energetic source of Godhead. They are both inseparable and equal in every respect and yet stand as unique and individual personalities for the purpose of divine pleasure distinct from the disease idea of impersonal monism. A comparison can be drawn from the material world in the phenomenon of simultaneous oneness and difference of the sun and the sunshine. Sun is not the sun without its sunshine, yet if we claim to have the whole of the sun in our room just because there's sunshine peeking through our window, it would be incorrect. Although they are one and the same, they both have their distinct qualities. Similarly, although there is no qualitative difference between Their Lordships Sri Sri Radha and Krishna, They are exhibit their individual characteristics. This is not in any way diminishing their divine equality. Quite the opposite, their distinct individual functions are making their divine equality meaningful. Thus Krishna is the Supreme purusha or enjoyer, while Sri Radha is the supreme pleasure potency of Sri Krishna. In such ying yang symbiosis lay the principle of divine enjoyment, which is always distinct from the perverted enjoyment of the material body in the temporary shadow manifestation called the material world. Although Sri Krishna is the eternal source and thus the object of Sri Radha's love, Radha is ever more merciful to the conditioned souls who seek the favor of Sri Krishna and She bestows Her divine mercy to those who serve the Lord despite all obstacles. Therefore the devotee always addresses her with the sublime word Hare before he addresses the Lord with the sublime word Krishna. If Srimati Radharani becomes pleased with the attitude of the devotee, Sri Krishna cannot refuse Her recommendation. Thus the transcendental address to Their Lordships, namely Hare Krishna is the perfection of religion and perfection of gender equality. Such perfection stays always aloof from the pushy and uncultured conception of the prakrta-sahajiya who pointlessly equalizes the perverted conception of sex life with the divine relationship of the Lord and His energy in futile attempt to reach spiritual satisfaction through sexual indulgence. One should always disassociate from such unfortunate fellows. One should always cultivate a healthy attitude of unworthiness in taking part in the pastimes of the divine couple and approach such topics under the guidance of a self-realized spiritual master.
- Is There Eternity?
Could there possibly be a concept of eternity? This material world is temporary and nobody can deny it. We can just observe it: things are created or born and then they are destroyed or they die. Our clothes are subject to time, worn down, days go by, everything changes. It might seem that there was just one creation and then everything will be finished, and that's it. Nothing was before and nothing will be after. So it is not even theoretically possible that there is such a thing as eternity. But what about this: you have a tree which gives 10 apples; 10 apples give 10 seeds which means possibly 10 new trees; each tree gives another 10 apples and each apple gives 10 seeds, etc. There is potential for this to happen unlimitedly. How come there was nothing, then there is something and then after there will be again nothing? Does it mean that everything is just now? Do you remember many things which happened before but you don't remember them? Does then it mean they never happened or they never existed? Or if everything is temporary, then your statement also has temporary validity. So what's the meaning of your statement? It's not true, it's just temporarily true, which means it's not true at all. If you want to establish this statement as true it must be true eternally, so it can be applied. But then you must admit eternity so your statement about temporary existence can come into validity. But then that would completely disprove the validity of the statement about temporary existence. So what do you think: is eternity possible? From the Vedas, the ancient scriptures containing the Absolute truth, describe two natures: eternal (sat) and temporary (asat). The spiritual world is eternal and material is temporary. The simplest and most frequently mentioned example is with the body; the body is changing constantly, so that is temporary. Also the mind, intelligence and ego or identification of “who am I”. But the observer never changes, since we were babies up until old age. The "I" is always there. You are always conscious and you observe all the changes of the body. Because the observer is the soul which is eternal. In the past you were existing, you exist also now and you will exist in the future, but body will be always different. Therefore by this simple observation we can see that there are two different natures: temporary and eternal.

- Recipe: Sweet Raw Mango Pickle - "Chunda"
Here is a classic Krishna recipe, from issue 8 of the Matchless Gift magazine. Find a fresh recipe in each new monthly issue! Click here to subscribe. Mango pickle recipe Recipe: Sweet Raw Mango Pickle - "Chunda" Pickles in the western world are generally conceived of as the gherkin or cucumber pickle and that's about as far as it goes, but Indian culture has a habit of pickling just about anything, and there are a variety of methods and spcies that really change up the game. Here's a recipe for a traditionally super sweet and tart pickle that you can make at home with a little effort and patience, but Krishna will certainly appreciate it. Plus it will last up to a year and a half on your shelf. Srila Prabhupada would often enjoy pickles at home with his mother during his childhood pastimes. Prep time: 10-15 minutes Cooking time: 6-10 days Serves: 1.4 kg (approximately) Notes & tips: • You can use ladva or rajapuri variety of raw mangoes instead of totapuri, but if you’re using ladva or rajapuri you will need to use 1.25 kg or 1250 grams of powdered sugar as these variety of raw mangoes are a bit sourer than totapuri. • Cleanliness is very important in the entire process of making the chunda so make sure your hands & the utensils you are using are very clean & dry, doing this will ensure that the chunda won’t spoil. • You can also add some additional spices like clove powder & cinnamon powder to flavour your chunda, every Indian home has their own set of spices that they add. • You can also make instant chunda using the same ingredients, after grating the mangoes & mixing in the salt, turmeric & sugar, you can cook the chunda in a kadhai (wok or large half spherical pot) over very low flame until it reaches one string consistency. Once it reaches the right consistency, cool it down & add the spices, your instant aam chunda will be ready. Ingredients: • RAJAPURI MANGO 1 KG • SALT 1 TBSP • TURMERIC POWDER 1 TSP • POWDERED SUGAR 1 KG • KASHMIRI RED CHILLI POWDER 2 TBSP • CUMIN POWDER 1 TBSP • GARAM MASALA A PINCH Method: • To make aam (mango) chunda you’ll firstly need wash the rajapuri mangoes very nicely & then dry them using a cloth or tissues, make sure that the mangoes are completely dry. • Further start peeling the mangoes, once you are done peeling the mangoes, you’ll have to grate them. • Start grating the mangoes through the large holes of the grater, you don’t have to use the finer holes, discard the seed of the mango once you reach the centre, grate all the mangoes similarly. • Transfer all the grates mangoes into a large heatproof glass bowl or a stainless-steel vessel, make sure that the bowl is clean & dry. • At this stage you are going to add the salt & turmeric powder, now mix everything well using your hands until everything combines. • Further add the powdered sugar, you’ll need to add it in batches & make sure that you sieve it before adding. • Add the powdered sugar in batches & mix well after adding each batch, there should be no lumps of sugar, using powdered sugar would be ideal as it melts immediately after adding & mixing it in. • Now cover the bowl with a muslin cloth & tie it very tightly using a string, your initial prep for the chunda is done. • Keep the chunda indoors overnight once you prep it till this stage. • The very next morning place the chunda outside on the terrace under direct sunlight till evening. • Bring the chunda indoors again after the sun sets, you’ll then need to open the muslin cloth & stir the chunda well using a clean spoon, the sugar settles on the bottom so stirring it is very important. • Cover it again with the muslin cloth & keep it indoors overnight. • Repeat the process of keeping it under direct sunlight then bringing it indoors & keeping it indoors overnight for 6-10 days until the sugar syrup thickens & almost reaches one string consistency. • Once you have repeated the process for 6-10 days & the chunda has almost reached one string consistency, you’ll have to add the further ingredients. • Now add the kashmiri red chilli powder, cumin powder & garam masala, stir & mix well using a clean spoon. • After mixing it cover it again with the muslin cloth & keep it under the sunlight for final 2 hours. • After the final stage the chunda will be ready, store it in an airtight glass jar & it will last upto 1-2 years. - Nuclear Weapon Threat? Srila Prabhupada Speaks
Today everyone is shocked by the realization that nuclear weapons may be used in the near future. But disciples of Srila Prabhupada are not concerned since he has told us about this a long time ago. Paramahamsa: The theory nowadays is that by the proliferation of atomic weapons, that Russia has so many weapons, China has so many weapons, the United States has so much... Prabhupada: Everyone now. India has also. Paramahamsa: They're all afraid of using them. Prabhupada: They must use it. That is nature's arrangement. Paramahamsa: Yeah, right. History. Prabhupada: Yes. That is nature's arrangement (chuckles) that you all die. That is nature's arrangement. Tamala Krsna: When someone gets some power he wants to try it out. Just like there was that demon. Lord Siva gave him power: whoever head he touched, the head would fall off. Prabhupada: Just like in your country there are so many cars so that a poor man like me has car always, not an inch move on leg. So because there is so many. There are so many cars. So there are so many weapons now. That must be used. That is a natural sequence. They must use it. Bahulasva: That is why they have wars, just so they can use up the weapons. Prabhupada: Oh yes. Paramahamsa: The only difficulty is that if one person uses the atomic weapon, that means entire, it would be entire waste of mankind. So everyone's afraid of using the ultimate. Prabhupada: Well, anyway, they must be used. There is no doubt about it. Therefore we can say there will be war. It is no astrology. It is natural conclusion. Tamala Krsna: Common sense. Paramahamsa: That'd mean total destruction. Prabhupada: Well, total or partial, that we shall see. But they must be used. Bahulasva: Now they like to blow them up in the ground. The scientists like to play by blowing them up in the ground. Tamala Krsna: Or in the sea. Bahulasva: They create big disturbances. Prabhupada: Yes. [break] ...can be solved by understanding these three items: God is the proprietor; He is the enjoyer; He is friend of everyone. They are acting just the opposite way: "I am the proprietor; I am the enjoyer; I am the friend. Because I am God." This is their... Everyone is becoming friend—ultimately proves to be enemy of the country because he is not friend. President Nixon took votes by pretending friendship, and later on, he proved enemy. This is going on. Everyone knows. Gandhi pretended to become friend, but he proved to become an enemy. Otherwise why he was shot down? Unless one thought him as enemy, why he was shot down? This is going on. Nobody can become friend except Krsna. Tamala Krsna: But a pure devotee is a friend to all. Prabhupada: Because he carries the message of Krsna. Krsna is friend, and he is carrying the friendly message. Therefore he is friend. If there is a nice friend and if somebody gives information of that nice friend, he is also friend. Therefore nobody can become friend except Krsna's representative. The material world is: "I am your enemy, and you are my enemy." This is the whole construction of the material world. So how the enemy can become friend? It is pretension, cheating. Morning walk - July 18, 1975, San Francisco NOW YOU ARE PROBABLY WONDERING HOW TO PREPARE FOR THIS WAR Disciple: So Prabhupada, is there something we should do to prepare ourselves for this disaster? Srila Prabhupada: What? Disciple: This coming war. Srila Prabhupada: You should simply prepare for chanting Hare Krsna. Disciple: That's all? Srila Prabhupada: That's all.
