IT STARTED IN THE 60's
Sunday feast was started by our spiritual master Srila Prabhupada back in 1966 in New York. Before any devotees joined him, he used to do everything single handedly -cook, clean, take out the garbage, lead the chanting, lecture and answer questions. Since then it has become a standard program in Hare Krishna temples around the world. It is the devotees' unconditional offering of Krsna's love to the public without any expectation of return. Everyone can come and eat Krsna prasadam to their full satisfaction and enjoy the company of the devotees. The program usually consists of three parts:
Prolonged and sincere kirtan from the heart brings an ecstatic feeling of the soul. It is not that all people chant at the same time. In kirtan a designated devotee leads the chanting of Hare Krishna mantra and the crowd then repeats the chant after him or her. In this way, in a call and reponse fashion kirtan takes place. This is the only regulation devotees follow while performing kirtan. Otherwise devotees clap, dance and sometimes even leap into the air!
A tip: Ask the devotees how to do the "the swami step"
Bhagavad-gita As It Is by His Divine Grace A.C.Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada is the most widely read translation and commentary of this ancient book of knowledge in the Western world praised by scholars and professors (link to article). We read one or two slokas(verses) of this scripture each time in Sanskrit and English. Our dear guests are encouraged to chant Sanskrit as well if they want(it's not so difficult). Purport by Srila Prabhupada is read and then a devotee lectures on the meaning of the sloka drawing from his study of Srila Prabhupada's books, lectures and conversations. Questions and answer section concludes the class.
The devotees spend the Sunday by cooking the best foods for the pleasure of Krsna. Just before the program starts a plate is brought to the altar and is offered with corresponding mantras to the Lord. After the Lord accepts the offering, the foodstuff becomes sanctified and surcharged with Krishna's love. The devotees serve the feast at the end of the program to everyone's delight.
More on cooking check interview with Maitreya Rsi Prabhu., who is harge of our Krsna kitchen.

My experience was an auspicious one, with lovely monks and delicious food. I managed to chant so many rounds for the very first time in my life and was excited about it. Chanting doesn't seem so difficult when together with others, except that concentration is required at the very beginning. But when you start, you feel like you don't want to stop!
I'm buzzing off the pristine vibes of chanting for our weekend, and for the beautiful food that has been prepared and served and the delicious company that I've enjoyed. It's been great associating with some devotees and connecting, so I really appreciate it. Thank you. Something that's really going to stick in my memory is dancing through the crowds in Oxford Street, and singing Hare Krishna with you guys playing. That is going to stick in my memory for a long time.
It's a Happening at The Bliss Temple! Singing, praying, worshipping and glorifying the Holy Names. Chanting 16 rounds with you was Amazing! Pure Bliss. Hare Krishna. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of this event. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

with Purujit Dasa
Do you need personal guidance with more focus? Are the classes too difficult to understand and you need someone to break down the basics for you? Do you need support in your personal sadhana (practise)? Then this might be something you are looking for.

Purujit 's teachings and explanations of Srila Prabhupada books and lectures bring so much understanding to the purpose of this life. I am learning how to focus on living life as god instructed. In this way my daily situations flow in a way of peace and structure.
Purujit is a great communicator and is always keen to help people with any type of issue or question.
He has a vast knowledge of the Vedas and Srila Prabhupada's books and within Their authority has supported me and many others in hearing the sastras and become Krishna conscious. Through Purujit's help I learnt to prioritise my soul's needs like for example to chant the Mahamantra and be happy.
. Being from a secluded area in the USA, we don’t have any ashrams or temples near by. So the majority of association I take is online. Purujit has been so kind from the start. Any time I have a question about tradition and procedures, he always has the perfect answer and advice. Purujit is definitely a light in the darkness for many.
Purujit Dasa prabhu is helping me to be in better association with HDG Srila Prabhupada every day. His energy, endurance of propagating the Krishna consciousnesses is motivational and helps me to progress every day further. He is always willing to give advice and spends his precious free time to help and guide back to HDG Srila Prabhupada's association.
